It is common practice in the cosmetics industry to give the INCI name of Hyaluronic Acid for the 1% solution and disclose nothing else about the solution itself. According to the CTFA a supplier or manufacturer does not have to disclose any further information. We at Essential Wholesale believe that the right thing to do is to disclose all the information in order to allow our customers to make an educated decision. It is not possible for Hyaluronic Acid to be made into a solution and sold on the market that contains only water and Hyaluronic Acid. You will rarely see the preservatives or even the liquid creating the solution disclosed. That is because technically the INCI for Hyaluronic Acid 1% solution is Sodium Hyaluronate . But ethically Essential Wholesale does not feel comfortable doing business on this fine line. You can go find another supplier that will not disclose the preservatives, but no matter what, the preservatives are in there. There are a variety of preservative systems and solutions that are made to create any ingredient “in solution”. An ingredient “in solution” can mean that that ingredient is dissolved or dispersed in water, alcohol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, glycerin, polysorbate and so forth. And the preservative system can be any of hundreds of preservative systems on the market.
The majority of the Hyaluronic Acid on the market today contains Phenonip and Water. A full disclosure of that ingredient list would be: Aqua (Water), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben. This undisclosed information would cause a major problem for a company that believes they are paraben free. We ran several tests in order to find the mildest, safest method to preserve our Hyaluronic Acid Solution. We chose to preserve our Hyaluronic Acid Solution with Potassium Sorbate and Citric Acid (to adjust the pH) which created a stable, effective and paraben free product. There are many different preservatives that could be used. We could have put out our Hyaluronic Acid 1% Solution on the market without the full disclosure of the ingredients which is standard practice, but we feel strongly about allowing consumers to make educated decisions with ingredients that are fully disclosed.
When you ask your supplier about Essential Wholesales “Closer Look”, do not be surprised if they react violently and attack Essential Wholesale. Disclosing this information is not required and/or standard practice. Your supplier may honestly believe that they are being sold and reselling an unpreserved product, because they are resellers. We are manufactures and put the product into solution ourselves, therefore we are fully and completely aware of what it requires to create a stable, safe and effective product. For many years we have manufactured our own extracts and solutions because we wanted to avoid the unlisted ingredients that are common in such products. We have made a corporate decision to no longer assume that a customer knows exactly what a solution or extract entails. You will find “A Closer Look” popping up all over our site disclosing many of the cosmetic industries secrets. We are not disclosing these in order to make us look better, because we could sweep them under the carpet like some others. We are disclosing them to give the consumer 100% control in their decision making process.
