Mango Butter is expeller pressed from the kernels of the mango fruit. Mango is rich in unsaponifiables, making it highly emollient, while its especially high content of oleic and stearic acids make it comparable to Cocoa Butter in humectant (moisture sealing) properties.
However, unlike Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter is soft and pliable with a melt point of 86°F-98°F, making it very easy to work with. It has good emolliency and is helps to prevent drying of the skin.
Mango Butter's soothing moisturizing properties make it perfect for crèmes, lotions and body scrubs. In fact, Mango Butter is a critical ingredient in Essential Wholesale & Labs’ Exotic Butter Crème, and therein is a story and an important lesson. Years ago we manufactured a Lavender scented Shea, Cocoa and Mango Butter Balm which unexpectedly crystallized. The product couldn't be sold, but the butters were so rich and fine we could bear to waste it. Instead we modified the “ruined” balm, melting and emulsifying the butters, thereby creating our Exotic Butter Crème which all these years later continues to be one of our most popular and best-selling crèmes.
