Features:
Suttocide A is sold as a 50% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxymethylglycinate. The solution is a clear alkaline liquid with a mild characteristic odor. This single preservative is a broad spectrum antimicrobial that is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, yeast and mold, even at low concentrations, providing cost-effective preservation. Suttocide A remains active at a pH as high as 12, and can be used in acidic conditions as low as pH 3.5, giving the formulator very broad flexibility as well as allowing adequate preservation of alkaline products. Suttocide A can also be used to neutralize acidic compounds, without any loss of antimicrobial activity. Note: The use of this preservative can cause discoloration when used in conjunction with some EO's and FO's and can also lead to unwanted thickening. Be sure you know what you are doing.

Mild and Effective September 12, 2007

Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate has proven an effective preservative in many of our skincare products.

Yes, it can discolor a product or make it thicker, but I find that the discoloration and thickness are often from an alkaline pH in the product after adding the Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate.  You can reverse the problem by re-balancing the pH with your buffer.

I gave it 4 stars because it does sometimes impart a mild odor on the formulation, depending upon the % used.
